Established in 1978, Piecemakers has grown from a tiny quilt shop to a full-service construction company and thriving country store which offers gifts, quilts, antiques, fabrics, notions, books and patterns, as well as a cozy tearoom and classes to learn every kind of grassroots art and craft imaginable. In addition to our location at 1720 Adams Avenue in Costa Mesa, California, we have an extensive online store which carries quilt calendars, books, patterns, fine hand sewing needles, hand crafted quilts, home decor and gift items produced by Piecemakers, plus fabrics, silk ribbon, embroidery threads, trims, hand dyed lace, notions and much more. As our founder Marie Kolasinski always said, Piecemakers store belongs to the people who walk through our doors, and is the vineyard God has given us to tend. New Book Available at Piecemakers The Fastest Drummer — Clap Your Hands for Viola Smith! Legendary jazz drummer, Viola Clara Smith, was an American drummer best known for her work in orchestras, swing bands, and popular music from the 1920s until 1975. She played five times on The Ed Sullivan Show, as well as in two films and the Broadway musical Cabaret” with Joel Gray. Viola is considered one of the first professional female drummers in the American popular music landscape, a true pioneer in her time. She was an advocate from the start when it came to women breaking into the music scene. Vi spent her latter years (from age 99 to just five weeks short of 108) here with Piecemakers and became a very familiar face to all our customers! She was our founder Marie Kolasinski’s first cousin.
